Zannato Museum of Archaeology and Natural Sciences preserves and exhibits archaeological and naturalistic evidence of the area, carries out teaching, research and dissemination activities and is the exhibition and operational headquarters of the Agno Chiampo Museum System. It takes its name from Giuseppe Zannato, the one who, by donating his collections, allowed the opening of the first museum in the city, born in 1922 in the adjacent elementary school and of which he was also the first curator. In the sixties the Museum was moved to its current location, the nineteenth-century Villa Lorenzoni, the work of the architect Malacarne.

The Museum is spread over three floors, one dedicated to archaeology, one to natural sciences and one to temporary exhibitions. The archaeological collections include finds from prehistory to the early Middle Ages. Of note are the Celtic weapons and hooks of Montebello Vicentino, the burial of a knight of barbarian origin enlisted as a mercenary in the Roman army from a quarry in Arzignano, the grave goods of the Lombard necropolis of the Hospital of Montecchio Maggiore and Monticello di Fara.

The naturalistic collections include, in addition to a small nucleus of botanical and zoological collections, mainly fossils and minerals. Housed in the basement, the naturalistic section houses gems and minerals from the Vicenza area, paleontological finds from the area and an exceptional collection of Italian and international fossil crustaceans.

Contacts for Visits and Admissions

Piazza Marconi Guglielmo, 17, 36075 Montecchio Maggiore VI

Saturday 15.00-18.30, Sunday and holidays 9.30-12.30 and 15.00-18.30

Tickets

Full price: 3,00 €

Reduced: € 2.00 (over 60 – children 11-17 years old – groups of 15 people, by reservation)

Free: people with disabilities and children up to 10 years old

Contacts

Museo Zannato: 0444 492565 – museo@comune.montecchio-maggiore.vi.it – www.museozannato.it

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/museozannato

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/museozannato

The G.
