Descriptions and Useful Curiosities for Visitors
It is a complex of underground quarries that develops on the top of the mountain below the castle of Bellaguardia for a kilometer and a half between artificial rooms and natural cavities of epicarsic origin. Open to the public and equipped for guided tours since 2008, the quarries were used for centuries, perhaps since Roman times, for the extraction of soft stone from Vicenza. They also constituted a refuge for the population during wars.
The path, very suggestive for the visitor, is enriched by captions and lighting that enhances the most interesting points from a geological point of view and the mining history of the site. The temperature inside varies from 10° to 15°C throughout the year.
